Simon du Pury is too stiff to be a mentor

What is with Simon de Pury (far left), the so called mentor on Bravo's "Work of Art" reality show. He is supposed to be the Tim Gunn of this Project Runway-style show, only he has no warmth or personality. Actually, his personality is that of a wet sponge.

We don't like him.

As for Miles (in orange), the performance artist. We find him to be disturbingly hot in that humbling, weird way that he has. But enough with the constant sleeping every minute he can. His sleeping act did get him the win in last night's competition, but how far will that get him?

And as for Project Runway, enough with the Lifetime tv crap, bring them back to the Bravo family where they belong.

Men are part of the panel on The View this summer.

Joey Scarborough was moderator today (they have floating moderators for a couple of weeks, while Whoopi Goldberg is away) and also today, Stephen A. Smith, sat in among Joey and the girls (Joy, Sherri and Elisabeth).

Yesterday, Bryant Gumbel was moderator in Whoopi's place and he'll be back tomorrow. WTF?

Barbara Walters has been out due to heart surgery, but maybe heads will roll when she gets back and it will be an all-girl thing again. It just works better that way. But if you want to have guys on the panel, get rid of Elisabeth Hasselbeck for good and we'll accept that. Anything is better than this shrew.

Rapper Nelly had plans back in February, for a male version of The View.

Top Chef season 7 started last night. First impressions: Angelo Sosa (center) is full of himself although (spoiler alert) he did win twice last night -- the Quickfire Challenge and the Elimination Challenge.

Did you see the premier of Hot in Cleveland on TV Land last night? Loved it! Dare I say it's the "Golden Girls" of the 2010s? There I said it. The common denominator of course is Betty White, but all the girls were fab. It's sort of Golden Girls, Designing Women and a mid-west Sex and the City all rolled into one. Hope it's a hit.

Ironically, the girls are almost the age of the Golden Girls back in the 1980s -- mid 50s, I would say, yet they look so much younger. But as they said more than once on last night's episode, "40 is the new 30," and so on. Hot John Schneider guest stared. Too bad he isn't a regular -- it was Bo Duke meets Barbara Cooper -- 30 years later!

What's with Dina? We want her to stay!

Rothko sells for almost $73 million

Art world records were shattered last night when a painting by the US abstract artist Mark Rothko became the most expensive contemporary work ever to be sold at auction.

The $72.84 million selling price for the artist's 1950 work White Center (Yellow, Pink, Lavender on Rose) was nearly three times the $27.1 million previous record, set last November, for any post-war work selling at auction.

The cremated remains of actor James Doohan, "Scotty" from "Star Trek", will be launched into space today if plans go ahead as scheduled. Doohan's remains, along with 200 others including Apollo 7 astronaut Gordon Cooper and aboard a private rocket scheduled to launch from Spaceport America in the New Mexico desert.

The first attempt at this in September failed, the rocket crashed. Let's hope the transporting beams them all up into the universe this time.

If all goes as planned Saturday, the cremated remains of the actor who portrayed "Scotty" aboard Star Trek's starship Enterprise will sail into suborbital space aboard a rocket launched from the southern New Mexico desert.

The remains of Gene Roddenberry, who created "Star Trek," were sent into space in 1997.

Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman already are on board the film, which will shoot in the summer in Berlin. The face of digital music was potentially changed forever when record label EMI Group announced that it would be offering premium versions of its albums available for download, with better audio quality and no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions attached. Even more surprisingly, EMI's first partner in the endeavor is Apple's iTunes Store, which many would argue is the poster child for DRM's shortcomings.

EMI's DRM-free offerings won't be available on the iTunes Store until next month, but the label has announced that the first premium album, the self-titled LP from The Good, The Bad, and the Queen is available for purchase on the band's Web site. It's in .MP3 form--the iTunes Store's version will be in Apple's preferred AAC audio format.

Spider-man 3 Premiere at end of month

Spider-Man 3 will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 30, the New York festival announced yesterday.

The third installment will debut in the New York City borough of Queens, the hometown of Peter Parker, Spider-Man's alter ego. The premiere will kick off a planned Spider-Man Week in NYC, which will include events and promotions throughout the city.

Grizzly bears in the Yellowstone National Park area no longer need the protections of the federal Endangered Species Act to ensure their survival, U.S. officials said yesterday.

"As a nation, we should be proud of our ability to have preserved a part of our wilderness heritage for future generations," said U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dale Hall.

And just the other day, crocodiles were taken off the Endangered Species list in Florida.

Starbucks announced they would form their own record label last week and this week they confirmed their first musician to release an album under the chain’s new Hear Music record label -- Paul McCartney.

"I've been working on it for a little while," McCartney said. "The songs are a little bit retrospective, some are of now, and some hark back to the past. All of them are songs I'm very proud of."

And to think, last week a friend of mine said Starbucks need to do something else to improve business like add ice cream to the stores! But a record label? Wow.

Warhol's Marilyn for sale

Lemon Marilyn was one of 13 portraits Andy Warhol made of Monroe after she committed suicide in August 1962. It sold for $250.00 in 1962.

Orange Marilyn, another painting in the series, was sold for $16.3 million in 2006.

The work will be on public display at Christie's in London from until tomorrow, and will go on sale at auction on May 16 in New York.
